The last 15 minutes of class produced this drawing. And, of course, I think it was more successful than my long drawing in many ways.

Home furnishings via Craigslist.

New credenza - $50 Craigslist Find
Originally uploaded by jc-pdx.
I'm well on my way to furnishing my entire home via Craigslist.

This is my 3rd purchase. I picked it up this weekend. Mom thinks it is Broyhill and matches the bedroom set I had as a kid is the same style.

I think she is right. I'm not sure if that is creepy or not.

I'm a WINNER (second place)

Remember that crazy cabinet I cleaned up for my bedroom?
I entered it into a DIY contest and received second place!
Woo-hooo! I should have been an industrial designer.

Text from design*sponge:
second place: jennifer who did a classy craigslist fix up! here were her steps for a fabulous cabinet makeover: "Take everything apart. Paint stripper to all surfaces. Get lamp rewired. Get new piece of plexiclass cut. Realize that stripping all the paint in the interior sections (the safe) is going to be a pain in the butt. Happen to see oil cloth at a fabric store and have an AH-HA! moment. Decide to use oil cloth to cover up the imperfect bits and to line the drawers and inside cabinet. Reassemble everything." congrats, jennifer!
And, just this afternoon (right before I left the office), I may have found my next DIY project on craigslist...

Head Hunting

NY Times article on the search for a new FEMA chief.

The thing they don't mention is that the Department of Homeland Security doesn't pay PCS (permanent change of station) for ANY of their employees.

So, basically you're asking civil servants working in State Emergency Management to make an unreimbursed $10K+ move to Washington DC (where they won't be able to afford housing) to take on one of the most politically sensitive jobs (FEMA) within an agency (DHS) that strips your budget with the support of an administration (Bush) and a weak-willed congress that basically promises the world to disaster prone constituencies under the auspices of an undermanned underfunded agency.

No wonder there is a long line of interested job candidates.
