Painting!

One 'long' painting from a photo.

One 'short' and 'blind' painting from another artist's line drawing.

Patty Griffin

I'm not sure if I'm done yet.
The top version is the current version.
The bottom one is now gone - but captured digitally.

Willem de Kooning

I just finished reading a biography on Willem de Kooning.
Fascinating. I'm not sure if I actually like his work but the book captured the tension of the individual artist and his body of work as well as the complex tension between the artist, the public, and the critique and consumption of his work.

Regardless of what I think of his art, soem of his atttributed quotes ring so true for me...especially the one about always wanting a brush in his hand.

Lately, the thing I love to do most is just draw. My anxieties just melt away.

To that end, I spent $50 at the art store on Friday on:
drawing board with clips
18x24 paper
markers
pens
charcoal pencil

The detailed detailed drawing was done with graphite on my new 18x 24 paper.

The bottom one was done with charcoal on 9x12 (?) paper.
I have trouble keeping my subjects inside the confines of the paper...
I havent made a jump to abstraction yet. I think I will. There is a challenge of working with the human figure and face that I like... But I'm curious to try abstraction...but I don't feel comfortable doing abstraction without color.
And I haven't painted much yet. All in time.

And I try not to ask myself: To what end? Posted by Picasa
